CC: When Matt and Cecile Became Parents!

When Matt and I became parents we were both naive. We have no idea how to be parents. But that didn't stop us from becoming one. We know with God's guidance and our parents advices, we would be okay. We have faith that in one way or another, we will learn how to be good parents to our kids...and how to raise them in such a way that the Lord would be very pleased; we don't have to be perfect to become good parents....everyday, we are learning something that will be beneficial to Jacob and to us as a person.

I am fortunate enough to have a humble husband who is willing to learn things..... to be a good father to Jake. When Jake was born, he became handy. He changed diaper, bathed Jake, fed and even cooked baby foods. He is a good father to Jake to the point that he spoils him. Yes, at home he is a kind and soft person who gives in easily to his son's wants. Me, on the other hand is the strict or the disciplinarian who says "no" to our son's tantrums, whining and all that is bad for him :-). But being the disciplinarian doesn't mean I lay my hands on him. Growing up, my father never laid hands on us, my mother on the other hand pinched and spanked me whenever I did wrong. Matt and I agreed that we would never hurt our son physically and do our best not to hurt his feelings as well. It is hard, but but in the long run it would be very good for all of us especially Jake. But one thing for sure about parenthood is that .... we are also learning from our child on how to be good parents...and person, too!

And these ten commandments to parents with small kids are our constant guide on raising our child.

1. My hands are small. Please don't expect perfection whenever I make a bed, draw a picture or throw a ball. My legs are short. Please slow down so that I can keep up with you.

2. My eyes have not seen the world as yours have. Please let me explore safely. Don't restrict me unnecessarily.

3. Housework will always be there. I'm only little for such a short time. Please take time to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly.

4. My feelings are tender. Please be sensitive to my needs. Don't nag me all day long. (You wouldn't want to be nagged for your inquisitiveness.) Treat me as you would like to be treated.

5. I am a special gift from God. Please treasure me, holding me accountable for my actions, giving me guidelines to live by and disciplining me in a loving manner.

6. I need your encouragement and your praise to grow. Please go easy on the criticism. Remember, you can criticize the things I do without criticizing me.

7. Please give me the freedom to make decisions concerning myself. Permit me to fail so that I can learn from my mistakes. Then someday, I'll be prepared to make the kind of decisions life requires of me.

8. Please don't do things over for me. Somehow that makes me feel that my efforts didn't quite measure up to your expectations. I know it's hard, but please don't try to compare me with my brother or my sister.

9. Please don't be afraid to leave for a weekend together. Kids need vacations from parents, just as parents need vacations from kids. Besides, it's a great way to show us kids that your marriage is very special.

10. Please take me to worship regularly, setting a good example for me to follow.

Swerte talaga tayo na ang mga hubbies natin eh willing to help us take care of the kids. Si Rodney din ganyan, ang di lang pinakikialaman ni Rodney eh ang pagpaligo, ako ang nagpapaligo sa mga bata. Naku ang mga anak ko di pwedeng di mapapalo paminsan minsan at masyadong matitigas ang ulo, but kahit pinapalo ko namin sila, they know it's for their own good.

  2. oo naman, para din naman sa kanila yung ginagawa natin eh, di ba? lungkot lang ako dun sa mga di sinuwerte sa kanilang asawa.... :-(
